Terms & Conditions*
- I/we will keep a collar and identification tag on the dog at all times and will license the dog with the county/city (as required).
- I/we have been advised of upcoming and annual immunizations that are necessary. I/we will provide annual veterinary checkups, keep immunizations current, and properly administer heartworm and flea prevention monthly. I/we understand that I must take the dog to the vet within 30 days of adoption and have preventative on hand.
- I/we will never allow the dog to run loose. The dog will be part of the family and be kept primarily in the house (required at night). When the dog is outside the house, it will be kept on a lead or in a fenced in yard. I/we will never use an invisible fence for the dog.
- I/we understand that dog food provides a properly balanced diet and agree to feed the dog only a nutritious dog food and snacks made just for dogs. I/we will keep fresh water available at all times.
- I/we affirm that no one in our household has been convicted or settled any charges of any crimes of violence, cruelty, or neglect against animals.
- I/we agree to not to use corporeal punishment or shock collars in training. I/we will learn to discipline with other techniques. If I/we have any disciplinary problems, I/we will contact Tennessee Dachshund Rescue to discuss and seek advice.
- I/we understand that Tennessee Dachshund Rescue cannot guarantee a dog is 100% housetrained. I/we acknowledge that Tennessee Dachshund Rescue never claims that a dachshund is housetrained.
- I/we will never allow my dog to be around children under the age of 9 without adult supervision. I/we will never allow anyone to tease, squeeze too hard, “pick on,” or “rough-house” to a point that could cause the dog to become aggressive or shutdown.
- Should I/we ever become incapable of keeping the dog in my care, I/we understand that I am contractually obligated to return the dog to Tennessee Dachshund Rescue. I/we will not sell, give away, abandon, take to a shelter, or adopt out the dog.
- I/we further understand that not all information or traits may be known about the dog. Tennessee Dachshund Rescue has informed me/us of all known behavior traits that TDR is aware of at the time of adoption. I/we acknowledge that all dogs, including dachshunds, can be prone to bite. Should the dog act out in any aggressive manner, I/we agree to hold the organization and its volunteers harmless of any and all liability arising from said aggression.
- If the dog is not yet spayed or neutered due to his/her age at the time of adoption, I/we, the adopter(s), agree to have this procedure completed by the time the dog is 9 months old by a licensed veterinarian. I/we agree to provide written proof of the completed procedure. I/we understand that we may choose to use a Tennessee Dachshund Rescue approved vet at no cost to us. However, if we choose to use a different veterinarian, Tennessee Dachshund Rescue will only reimburse ($150 for neuters / $175 for spays) upon receipt of proof spay/neuter. Refusal to get the dog spayed/neutered will result in a breach of contract, and Tennessee Dachshund Rescue will take legal steps to claim the dog.
- I/we understand that the dog has been evaluated by a veterinarian and any necessary medical issues addressed. Tennessee Dachshund Rescue is not responsible for any medical issues that may be present at adoption which may require medical treatment after adoption. There will be no refund of the adoption fee, regardless of circumstances.
- I/we understand that dachshunds are known as being protective and may exhibit fear biting, aggression, resource guarding, or other behavioral issues that may result in harm to an individual or property. I/we acknowledge that Tennessee Dachshund Rescue has informed us to their best of their knowledge possible triggers and behavior concerns with our adoptive dog. I/we agree to hold harmless the organization, its Directors and Board of Trustees, and its volunteers and release all future claims related to aggression and/or biting.
- I/we understand and agree that, as of the date of this agreement, Tennessee Dachshund Rescue has no further financial or legal liability as it relates in any to this dog including, but not limited to, future medical treatments, any damage to person(s) or property, or other expenses.
- RELEASE & INDEMNIFICATION/NO LIABILITY: Adopter hereby releases Tennessee Dachshund Rescue from any and all liability for personal injury, property damage, legal fees, medical/veterinary care, or any other expense or liability incurred by Adopter as a result of this adoption. Adopter agrees to indemnify Tennessee Dachshund Rescue from any and all such claims and to pay, without limitation, any costs related to such injury, damage, or liability, including, in the case of litigation, any fees incurred by Tennessee Dachshund Rescue in its defense.
- By voluntarily signing this agreement, I/we am/are entering into a legal and binding contract with Tennessee Dachshund Rescue. I/we understand that any breech of contract will result in the dog being reclaimed by Tennessee Dachshund Rescue. I/we further understand that Tennessee Dachshund Rescue may take any legal course of action deemed reasonable to reclaim and rehabilitate the dog.
